The Last Emperor, a self-described visionary in Hip-Hop, brings a much-needed element of imagination and passion to the culture. He began freestyling in the Philadelphia area while earning a degree in Political Science/International Relations from Lincoln University, PA. In the early 1990s, with the help of a friend and manager, he signed a recording contract, becoming a protégé of Dr. Dre, founder of Aftermath and producer for artists like Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, and Eminem. In the mid-90s, he signed with Interscope Records and Rawkus Records. In 1998 and 1999, he toured on the Lyricist Lounge tour. He performed at SOBs, Tramps, NY, Khyper Pass, PA, Wetlands, NY, Avalon & Axis, Boston, Middle East, Cambridge, Mass, Club9, DC, House Of Blues, LA just to name a few. His international performances include Denmark's Roskilde Festival, The Boulevard Connection tour, Denmark, London's Jam in the Park, and Norway's Quart Festival. In 2002, he toured North America as the guest MC for the Gorillaz. He has collaborated with KRS-One, Zach De La Rocha of Rage Against the Machine, Black Thought of The Roots, and Chuck D. of Public Enemy. In 2024, The Last Emperor released several albums, including "Programme" with longtime producer DJ Madsol Desar, which won Best Album in February 2024 on Bandcamp. He has been interviewed on SiriusXM and recently performed live in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Just in case you're not familiar with DJ Madsol Desar, he has made a significant impact in the music world. He produced hit tracks on super-producer Armand Van Helden's "Sampleslaya – Enter The Meatmarket" This is It featured. Madsol Desar on vocal for album released (Ruff House Records) and achieved underground success with the track "Off Balance" on his own record label, featured on the DJ Premier-mixed "Haze Presents: New York Reality Check" compilation album (Payday Records). He has produced mixtapes hosted by Wyclef Jean and has collaborated with artists like Talib Kweli, Sadat X, ED O.G, Immortal Technique, and many others. He was invited to DJ at the famous Harlem Club, Japan 1998. He performed a DJ set on The Boulevard Connection Tour in Germany in 1999 and served as a background DJ for artists such as Talib Kweli and The Last Emperor. Kanye West personally called DJ Madsol Desar to DJ his private home New Year eve’s party 2002. In 2023, Madsol Desar did a solo rapping live set with super rap group Czarface aka 7L, Esoteric & Inspectah Deck (Wu-Tang Clan ) at Paradise Club in Boston. In 2024, he has been spinning at prestigious events, including magazine, and private events in the Hamptons, NY, The Faces monthly party at Lowlands Bar in Brooklyn, and at Hue Club in Boston, MA.
